We run regular seminars, workshops and talks covering a variety of topics relevant to early and mid-career researchers who work in the field of populations and lifelong health.
Networking is an important aspect of all our event as we aim to encourage greater interaction between speakers, delegates and Network Committee Members.
These are the events you can look forward to in the coming months:
- Grant writing mentorship for early career researchers - 20 February 2018
We are running a further grant writing mentoring session for Early Career Researchers.
At this mentoring workshop, early career researchers will get the chance to present and receive feedback on a two-page outline grant or fellowship proposal.
There are only four places at the mentoring workshop, and your place will only be reserved once you have sent your two-page research proposal (downloadable from here) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Early career researchers should submit their proposal by Friday 9 February 2018 at the latest, and they will then be passed on to senior academic mentors.
On the day, the early career researchers will deliver a three minute presentation about their proposal. Senior academic mentors will then ask questions about the proposal and provide constructive feedback. Proposals will also be shared with the other early career researchers attending the event to facilitate peer learning.
Feedback from previous events has been extremely positive, including the following:
“The mentoring feedback session on the submitted grant outline by Prof. C was absolutely excellent. Having to assess the work of others in a formal fashion made me critically re-assess by own work in a very useful fashion.”
The mentoring sessions will run for 2 hours and early career researchers will be able to sit in throughout in order that they can learn from their peers and vice versa. The proposals submitted will also be shared with other early career researchers in order to facilitate the peer learning at the event.
- Professional careers beyond academia - 11 June 2018
Date: Monday 11 June 2018
Time: 09:00 - 17:00
Venue: UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health
Once again, the UCL Populations & Lifelong Health Domain Early Career Network will be running a careers day that will focus on career paths for researchers outside of academia in the life science sector and other closely related sectors.
Attendees will have the chance to hear talks from employers who are PhD holders themselves, and a careers fair with a range of companies.
Feedback from previous events:
“Excellent range of speakers; good networking opportunities”
“Good introduction of science background to different fields”
“Exceptional range of engaging presentations”
