AHRC/BT PILOT RESEARCH NETWORKING CALL

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and BT are pleased to announce a call for research projects of mutual strategic interest under a pilot programme of Research Networking. The research theme for this call will be ‘Digital Heritage: understanding the personal, social and cultural contexts of consumers of cultural heritage’.

The AHRC and BT are working together to develop a collaboration to bring together the arts and humanities research community with BT researchers and other stakeholders with an interest in digital heritage to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaborative research.

The AHRC/BT Pilot Research Networking funding call is intended to support interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers to explore the theme of ‘Digital Heritage: understanding the personal, social and cultural contexts of consumers of cultural heritage’.  The AHRC and BT welcome networks which involve academic colleagues from the arts and humanities together with people from BT, non academic organisations, businesses and other parties whose interests complement the aims of the pilot programme.  Project proposals to this call should involve BT through for example, provision of expertise, ‘in-kind’ access to technology and capability. Academic researchers should contact John Seton from BT Research (john.seton@bt.com) to discuss appropriate BT involvement and/or other parties potentially interested in participating in this call. Applicants may apply for funding up to a full economic cost of £15, 000 for projects lasting up to 1 year in total.

Applications to this scheme should be submitted to AHRC through the cross council Joint electronic-Submissions (JeS) system. Application forms will be available via the AHRC website on Tuesday 21st April 2009.  The application deadline for this call will be 4pm on Thursday 21st May 2009.

UP TO ONE MILLION EUROS AVAILABLE FOR UK HUMANITIES REASEARCH

A unique research funding opportunity that could allow UK arts and humanities academics access to up to one million Euros funding for collaborative research projects has recently been launched.

Organised by HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) and facilitated in the UK through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) this Joint Research Programme (JRP) call is intended to enable trans-national Collaborative Research Projects in two humanities research areas:

  • Cultural dynamics: Inheritance and identity
  • Humanities as a Source of Creativity and Innovation

The call is open to all UK humanities and arts academics and to ensure that as many UK academics as possible have an opportunity to participate in this research call the AHRC will be holding briefings at the end of January in London (29th) and Glasgow (30th).

The briefings will provide an opportunity to ask questions about eligibility, the programme themes and how to apply. It will also be an opportunity to network and forge new contacts. If you would like to attend this event, please email hera@ahrc.ac.uk indicating which of the two sessions you would like to attend.

By launching this first HERA JRP call for proposals, 13 national funding partners want to create collaborative, trans-national research opportunities that will derive new insights from humanities research in order to address major social, cultural, and political challenges facing Europe. In consultation with their national researcher communities, they have jointly defined and developed common research priorities, and created a new trans-national funding mechanism.

The beneficiaries of this Call are eligible scholars located in Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom, irrespective of their nationality.

Successful proposals will require the building of consortia of three or more partners based in three or more different HERA JRP countries (e.g. UK, Netherlands, Austria etc).

HERA JRP collaborative research projects are humanities-driven, but do not exclude participation from other disciplines that are relevant to the theme of the call.

Outline Proposals need to be submitted electronically via the HERA website by 7 April and it is expected that Full Proposals will be invited in May 2009 with 1 September 2009 as the expected deadline for submission.

A Programme-specific website can be consulted for the latest updates.
