About the Research Councils

Research Councils UK is a strategic partnership of seven UK Research Councils. Many activities are undertaken collectively through cross-Council activities and RCUK provides a gateway to individual Council’s support for research, training, knowledge transfer and public engagement.

The Arts and Humanities Research Council supports research from traditional humanities subjects, such as history, modern languages and English literature, to the creative and performing arts.  It funds research and postgraduate study, and museums, galleries and collections that are based in, or attached to, higher education institutions in England.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council  is the main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences. EPSRC operates to meet the needs of industry and society by working in partnership with universities to invest in people and scientific discovery and innovation. EPSRC also actively promotes public engagement in science, engineering and technology.
